Not all Made-to-Measure Curtains are the same!

Important facts you should know:

Headings – There are two main ways of creating the curtain heading:

1) Sew in a tape and draw up strings to gather.

2) Sew a stiffening ‘buckram’ into the heading then sew in pleats or goblets so that the curtain is exactly the right length for the track.

For Pencil Pleat heading a tape is perfectly adequate, and really the only way of creating this heading.

For Triple Pleat and Goblet heading, buckram gives a far superior finish. All our prices are quoted for using buckram. We can give you a cheaper quotation for tape instead if you wish. But when comparing prices, make sure you know what quality of heading you are getting.

Side Seams – again there are two main ways of forming the seams:

1) Bag lined

2) Blind Hemmed

With bag lined the lining is simply sewn onto the curtain cloth and turned inside out. Although a cheaper method, it can allow the edges to ‘roll’.

With blind hemming, the lining is joined to the curtain cloth and the seam is also attached to the face of the curtain cloth about 5cms in from the edge. This is done by carefully picking up some of the threads at the back of the curtain cloth so the stitching is virtually invisible on the face. It gives a much smarter appearance and in our opinion the curtains hang better. When comparing our curtains with what others call 'made-to-measure', be certain to check this point.

Fullness - this is the number of widths of fabric that will be used for the width of your track or rail. Opnions vary in the trade for any given track size, but of course it will make a lot of difference to the price. Always make sure you know how many widths of curtains you are being quoted for when comparing prices.

Fabric Prices - all sorts of prices per metre are quoted for fabrics.

With so many being unbranded it is difficult to see whether you are getting value for money. What matters however is the final price of the curtain. Therefore we have put our prices in price groups so that the only price that matters is the finished article. Compare our prices – we are certain you will be pleasantly surprised.
